Team Vanguard, is a new off-road racing team which piloted the only American car entered in the world's most grueling race event the Dakar 2005, from January 1-January 16, 2005.
Team Vanguard was lead by international computer security industry leader, and amateur off-road racer, Ronn Bailey. While some may look askance at the notion of an amateur heading a professional team in the world's hardest off-road adventure, accounting for about 7,000 miles over 16 days, people who know Ronn Bailey are not at all surprised. They realize that ''self-discovery'' and ''self-extension'' represent a vital part of Ronn Bailey's soul.
Ronn Bailey has been dreaming about competing in the Dakar for over 10 years, since hearing about the unbelievable African race from motorcyclists he encountered during his vacation adventures to the Arctic Circle or through Central America.
As in so many of his experiences, Ronn has applied his personal philosophy to the Dakar. Recognizing his limitations and amateur status, Ronn realized at the outset that the best route to Dakar would include a team of recognized off-road professionals. He set out to see if he could become part of a "tribe" and be accepted and trusted by the members of that tribe. |
